National Nutrition Month is a nutrition education and information campaign sponsored annually by the American Dietetic Association (www.eatright.org). The campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits.

National School Breakfast Week aims to help LAUSD students, teachers and parents learn why a healthy breakfast that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables is the best way to start the school day.

If you have questions about National Nutrition Month, National School Breakfast Week or any of the resource kit materials, please contact the Network at (818) 609-2550.

Nutrition Advisory Council (NAC)

Nutrition Advisory Councils (NACs) are student-led groups in which members work to affect healthy change through student-to-student nutrition education aimed at increasing the daily consumption of fruits and vegetables and physical activity among their peers.  NACs are sponsored by a teacher, administrator or nurse, but the real work is done by the students. Their goal – to inspire healthy change at their schools.

Walk to School Month Resource Kit

Every October, the Network and its partners join schools from around the world to celebrate International Walk to School Month. Millions of people participate in more than 40 countries as part of the annual initiative.

During Walk to School Month, Network partners host events to promote health, safety, physical activity, and encourage students and their families to be physically active by walking to school. The energizing events remind everyone of the simple joy of walking to school, the health benefits of regular daily activity and the need for safe places to walk and bike.

If you have questions about Walk to School Month or any of the resource kit materials, please contact the Network at (818) 609-2550. For more information about Walk to School Month, please visit www.walktoschool.org.
